Sephi Bergerson grew up in Tel Aviv, Israel, and at age of 21, after completing three years in a paratroops regiment of the Israeli army, moved to New York City to pursue his interest in photography. Two years later he came back to Israel to take up photography studies at the Haddassa Institute of technology in Jerusalem. He graduated with honours in 1991 and later that year opened a commercial photography studio in Tel Aviv. In 2001 he was elected president of the Professional Photographers Association in Israel.
After more than 10 years as an advertising and commercial photographer, in early 2002, Sephi closed his studio and moved to India with his wife and their 10 months old baby girl to follow his dream to be a documentary photographer.
With family hailing originally from Poland, Sephi has traveled the world and has lived in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, New York City, San Francisco, Paris, New Delhi and Goa. This international experience, coupled with the creative influence of his time as a commercial photographer, and his years in India, helped him develop a distinctive photographic language.
Recently, Sephi Bergerson made a huge sound on the line of photography when he shot a whole Indian Wedding using a smartphone.
It has always been his dream to shoot an Indian Wedding with his smartphone but the challenge was to find a brave couple to do that. Until he finally met this couple.
Sephi was able to cover a 3-Day Wedding Ceremony using only a smartphone.
“Daytime pictures were fantastic, but the night still remained a bit tricky”
“I had a hand-held LED light to help me get proper exposure."
Sephi Bergerson has been an inspiration for me. He is a living proof that photography is not with what gear you use but how you use your gear.
"If I give you a Jimi Hendrix guitar, you won’t be able to play like him. It is not about the gear” - Sephi Bergerson
