@Paul @Elaine @Shadow @Osama Just a heads up guys from a confused and dissatisfied flasher from the Philippines.. This happened last Tuesday early morning (July 6) when I successfully downloaded the zip file of the local update for MM 1.7 for the AF2 and was ready to give it a shot. Before that, I carefully read the instructions and made it a point to follow everything step by step.. My phone is not rooted, its on LL v3.8, I backed up everything, I removed my SD card, and I made ample space available in the internal memory (sdcard0) so it can accommodate the process.. Battery was at 74% at this time.
So, I gave it a go.. First thing that happened was it went to the update screen, with the android green thing.. It took about 15-20 minutes, but then when it finished, it showed an error message (android lying down with a red X mark on its belly), and then quickly turned off, then it went on and back to updating again.. But this time, the update just made halfway and the phone automatically turned off.. This incomplete update process went on a loop until I gave up on it and let it be.. I went to sleep..
The next morning, I checked my phone and it was off.. I turned it on, the flash logo with the powered by android logo below showed up for like 5 seconds then turned off.. It went on, showed the flash logo again, turned off, and repeated the process on and on until it was stuck there.. I knew something was wrong because the normal boot would show the flash logo with the green circle moving around it before the home screen appears, but this time, no green circle appeared..
I went back to this page to see the forums if others have experienced the same thing as mine and I saw 5 users with the same problem (@Shin03 @jack @gabygaby @Mightymart and @Isabelle). Unfortunately, none of them have not received any concrete explanation except for @Elaine sending them email on what to do or advising bringing the phone to the nearest service center.
I did not bother to ask help from here anymore since its very clear that the update was buggy and unstable and that's the culprit of my phone getting broken. So I went today to the nearest service center to have my phone checked. So I explained to the service clerk what happened, she took my phone and my acknowledgment receipt from LAZADA (I bought my AF2 from them). And what she told me made me REALIZE the PROBLEM.
She said that since the software was the thing that broke my phone, there are 2 options in fixing it: (1) do a reprogram, or (2) change the motherboard. With that, I need to give them my phone and they'll send it to the central office (maybe the one in San Juan) for the repair process.. This would take a week but they will update me through SMS. Then I asked her about the MM update itself and if they are aware of it. She said that THEY DON'T HAVE A COPY OF THE MM UPDATE ITSELF NOR A ROM FOR IT AT PRESENT SO WHATEVER WE HAVE OBTAINED FROM HERE WAS PROBABLY A BETA, BUGGY VERSION. SHE ADVISED ME NOT TO UPDATE MY PHONE BY MYSELF BUT THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER WHO CAN INSTALL A STABLE UPDATE WHICH WILL NOT BREAK THE PHONE AND WILL NOT COMPROMISE THE WARRANTY. So, if ever the phone gets fixed, the OS that's gonna be programmed will be the Lollipop 5.1 but she's not sure if its the v.3.8 or lower.. If the central office has a copy of the stable MM update, there is a possibility that they might install it to my phone once its reprogrammed (but I doubt it since she said earlier that there is no stable MM update yet).
So the thing is, even the service centers don't advocate doing the update by ourselves to avoid this problem. Sad thing is I have to learn my lesson the hard way. So I have to wait for a week and see if my phone will get fixed or not..
One important point I wanna make clear, I am a techie person but I am not into rooting or flashing and I don't know the basics of it, so I don't know the workaround and troubleshooting if things go wrong.. I can read forums for explanations, but if its beyond my knowledge, I will NOT do it..
Moral of the lesson? Allow only authorized personnel mingle with your phone. If you have second thoughts doing anything on your phone, its most likely towards the negative so might as well not do it. ALWAYS WAIT FOR A STABLE UPDATE.
So my countdown for this long week starts now..
